The balancer on my 94 RWD 22re pickup needs replacing. The factory part is almost $400.00. Is it a mistake to go with one of the sub $100 aftermarket balancers like Dorman, Dayco, or ATP? If not, which one is recommended? Thanks.

Is there a local junkyard/wrecker where you could find a used one? That's what I would try first.

I could do that, but since 95 was the last year for that model pickup I'd most likely be getting a part with rubber that was at least 19 years old. I have to believe that I'd get more life out of an aftermarket part even if it is inferior. $400 just seems a tad unreasonable for a factory part (that may also have been sitting in storage for over a decade).

You're talking about this part, correct? I would have no issue pulling that from a wrecked 22RE.

I am running quite a few that are original.

My one experience with buying after market was the manufacture forgot one of the machining operations .
Just how is yours bad??

Yah, that's the part. The rubber dampener is cracked and the pulley it's wobbling a little. I was at the dealer this afternoon and they wanted over $500 for the part. What did the aftermarket forget to machine? Which one was it?

The part that when it was torqued down it put pressure on the oil pump housing and the engine would not move.

Interesting to find I had thought for some reason after doing a timing chain the engine seized .

To be honest I can`t recall just where it came from on Ebay and till I installed it and got every thing all apart again it was to late to try for a refund.

The only way I found it was by looking side by side with the old one.

I gotta say I would most likely go with the Dorman one because Napa sells them. They give me great service in case things go wrong.
