my 87 4rnr started having issues with starting and it came on rather quickly. Started to get hard to start. It would start, but the starter turned over slow it seemed. Then, the dreaded "click" and it would not start. I could hear a click under the dash also. I ran a jumper wire to the starter to verify a full 12 volts. It would not start. Tapping starter did not help in this case either. Pulled the starter and replaced w/ another one I had as a spare. Starts like a dream, no problems at all. Took the old starter apart, the copper contacts were shot! Go figure... So, another contact issue in the starter. Glad I had previously ordered the new contacts from crawler! When they get in, I am going to rebuild the starter and have another as a spare.... Hopes this helps some of you w/ similar problems. I know I am but, maybe some will see this post and fix their problem w/out posting another question....
