gutless 22r
Replaced my carb on my 87 22r today because the old one was leaking and flooding out. Now with the new carb I can't get it to idle bellow 1200 rpms. To set it I backed the fuel/air screw out until the idle smoothed then tried to adjust the idle speed screw but its backed out to the point where it does nothing. Also if floored it has no power like its trying to go but just can't.i checked timing and it is at 0* with the vacuum advance removed. I feel as if it is ignition related just dont really know where to look.

I guess with the old carb because of it`s condition things could not run good
By new you mean brand new out of the box??
Has this ever run good ??
Vacuum leaks cracked hoses or on wrong
Our you allowing the engine to warm up so the choke has kicked off high idle 1200 rpms`s sounds about right if it is still on .
Back to the basics fuel spark air and timing

Yes it is brand new out of the box. I just messed with it a little more. I adjusted the screw behind the diaphram on the passenger side of the carb and that lowered the idle down to about 900. Drove it and the power has seem to come back. I've searched for vacuum leaks and can not find any. Truck is completely warmed up I've been driving it all day.

Need some more history here??
Is this a new vehicle to you ??
How many miles on the engine??
Have you just done the timing chain and are off with the cam timing ??
Then just what are you comparing your performance with??
These engines at a little over a 100 horse power when fresh in a 4x4 vehicle are not speed demons .
I myself stay off the interstate because I don`t have the top end to drive with traffic

Was driving the truck around yesterday and it would barley go and would only if floored came home pulled #1 spark plug did compression test. Needsless to say no reason checking the others its time for a rebuild.

You do know valves out of adjustment will also give poor compression.
Only 50,000 miles it must have had a hard life!!!!
I had one the compression was so low I could turn the engine with my hand on the crank pulley .
I drove it for a few years after that till the head gasket went.

might just fix the chain guide and timing. are you sure the timing marks are right? been more than a decade, but i do belive you can get them off and on the wrong mark.
