Got some miles on the 5.29's... so far so good (FUN!!)
Like it says I've put a few miles on the new gears (I'll be able to wheel when I get back from Texas) and so far I like several things about the gearing.
1) Nice get up and go in every gear, I can now use 5th again and highway speeds are a breeze.
2) Seems to be getting better fuel mileage, I've got 140 miles on less than half a tank so far and that is usually what I get on almost a full tank on summer fuel.
3) It cruises a lot better at "in town speeds". I'm thinking that the rear carrier (which was replaced) had some issues since it used to vibrate while cruising.
So far so good. I'll give you all an update when we get back and I have a chance to lock her in and see how she does. I'm hoping to crawl a little better than I did with the 4.56's.

That's good to hear! I just ordered 5.29's for my 4Runner. They are supposed to be here around the 7th. I'm going to try setting them up myself. I'm running 35's with 4.30 gears so I'm hoping for a huge improvement. I drive about 75 miles a day on the highway, does okay till I hit a headwind or try and pass someone or run the AC.

Did you set them up? Thinking real hard about getting some and doing them myself.
$400 doing gears yourself
$1000 taking thirds out and having some one else do it
$1800 for set up thirds pull and swap.
I mean for that kind of difference you have to try and set them up yourself. That dang backlash and weird looking tools scare me. I need some reassurance. Somebody tell me you did it and it was easy.

I did not set mine up myself, long story short is that I had a plan and it didn't quite work out so I had to have someone else do it for me.
On a lighter note I got to fill up the tank today and the mpg went up to 20.2. Of course that's with the mild driving of break in period (got over that today) so it may drop a tad now that I can drive it like a truck again. I'm really hoping the deeper (taller?) gears help with the road trip I'm making next week up past Moab and into Idaho/North Dakota. Maybe I'll be able to pull some hills and not be in third gear.

Skoti~ I want to say it runs just a tad under 3K at 65mph and about 3300 at 75mph but that's just a ball park since I've only had it out on the interstate a few times so far and I'm not even sure if the speedo is correct.

Oh indeed! I'm already telling myself that I'll never really need to go with 35's but then I said the same thing about my current tires when I was still rolling on 31's.
