GM alternator into '91 V6 pickup - wiring question
Hi guys,
I have a 91 pickup that I'm going a GM alternator swap into.
I know the guys who have been through this who have done the Vortec swaps. I need the ground side of the idiot light to activate the alternator. There are three wires going in to the back of the Toyota alternator, tow fat white (one with a blue wire) and then a red, in addition to the fat charge wire.
Which one do I use? I can only find a diagram from a '94 4 Runner and it shows different wire colors and more of them...
I am assuming it's the red wire and the two fat white wires carry a charge even though the alternator also has its big charge wire coming out of it?
thanks,
Andre

To answer my own question, there is is a yellow wire that goes to the alterntor. My was dirty and faded but once I got to the harness there is indeed yellow. This triggers the alternator. Run a new wire for the charge portion...
Pretty simple.. Awesome...

It's actually a Mercedes diesel that can use a Saab 9000 alternator that is factory 115 amps. It is the same as wiring a GM alternator except its two wires instead of the four. It still needs the ground from the idiot light to activate the alternator.
Details of the swap are here.. It is going together super cleanly.. Using a Volvo radiator the engine fits just fine in the Toyota body without a ton of work..
