Gear To Tire question

What it do, first post on this website, so here it goes. I'm rolling with a 1991 toyota pickup(22RE), my truck currently has 31x10.5 AT tires with 4.10 gears, I want to put back on the 195/75-14 stock tires back on mainly becuase i moved out of the country and into the city, so i dont go wheeling no where near as much as i used too so, My question to everyone is that would having the 4.10 gears with the 195/75-14 stock tires cuase a loss in power/gas milage or anything else significant?

Thanks Again,

-Gilas.

more power, dunno about gas mileage. you will be running higher rpms, may help with gas mileage. I am running 4.56's with 32's and have high revs, but still get 20-22mpg.

Right now you are about 10% over the stock gearing (meaning engine working about 10% harder) and going to the smaller tire would put you about 10% under stock gearing. You'll see more torque to the road and probably better MPG with the smaller tires since the engine is working less hard. Your speedometer will be off about as much as it is now, just on the other side.

Nah. You don't have to regear. You're top speed might be a little lower, but your truck should feel like it has more power, since the lower gears, and smaller tires. If the A/T's still have decent life left in them, keep em on there before you go buying new 195's.

Your mileage should increase in the city and highway under ~60mph, as will your power.
