gear oil in the steering box?

just finished putting my steering box back together after putting new seals through the entire box...did it all with this link: http://128.83.80.200/TACO/box.html

however when i looked at the FSM it said that i should "replenish steering gear with gear oil" and that it takes 400 cc of it. is this truly necessary? i thought that ATF was the lubricant in the steering system. if i do need to put some gear oil in what weight? this was not mentioned in the link above, and im pretty sure he hasn't had problems with it.

Thanks,

Jordan

Gear oil is used if you have MANUAL steering only.

ATF is used if you have POWER steering.
