Gear lube leak
[[/IMG]Started smelling gear lube inside cab of truck last week, after checking under truck, found damp spray built up on floor board above drive shaft coming out of rear of transfer case, is there a seal or other repair I need to do. Thank You, p.s. leak is approx 7 inches back from tranfercase where drive shaft slides on and off yoke of transfercase.

Can't see your pic...but it sounds like you might have a rear oil pinion leak, around your driveshaft. I have one too, going to dive into it pretty soon with a buddy of mine who knows a lot more than I do. There's a tech writeup on here somewhere I read recently that tells a lot about it!
If that's what it is, the parts are like $25, but you have to preload the bearing in there or you'll eat the new seal up in about 2 months! Other possibility is the seal between the pumpkin and the rear housing, which is a PIRG gunk seal (no gasket). Maybe do 'em both while you're in there?
Last but not least...could it be a blown brake line? I've had one blow out back there - still cleaning brake fluid off everything it sprayed all over!

Dollars to donuts you popped the rear seal. Pull the driveshaft and check the u-joints, they may be shot (mine were). then wiggle the tailshaft of the xfer case, if its loose you need a new seal and possibly a new output bearing.
This however might be a good time to put in that 4:70 gear set from marlin crawler & replace all the bearings and be done with it.
