"G" Series and "B" series axle codes

"G" Series and "B" series axle codes

I have searched all over the place and cannot seem to find the diffirence between the A,B series and the G series axle codes for the Rear Diffirential. I purchased a G144 (4:88) Rear diffirential for my 93 Yota PU 22RE and I was wondering if there is a difference between the G and B Axle Codes. Mine is B03A. Will I be able to make this swap without modifications? Thanks in Advance.

The difference between A/B axle codes, and G axles codes is country of origin. A/B axle codes are for vehicles built in north america, and G codes are Japanese built.

Regardless, you will be able to swap in that factory 4.88 diff. however, if you ever choose to regear in the future, you will have to use a different carrier since the factory 4.88 carrier uses an offset pinion.

Thanks Guys for the Quick Responses. That makes sense I dont plan on going any bigger than 31x10.50x15 and I have 30" on the truck right now so the truck will be smoking with 4:88's. Does anybody know how much of a diffirence that will make to the truck going from 4:10 to 4:88 with 30" tires?

4.88 is too tall of gearing for 30" tires IMHO. Your RPM's are going to be screaming at highway speeds.

Best gearing for 30" tires is 4.30 or 4.56 max.

for 4.88 gearing, you want to go with 31" or 33" tires.

That is true it should only take it up by about 400-500 RPM right? I had a 86 PU that I put 5:29 gears in. When I had the gears installed I was only running 31" and it wasnt bad at all I could actually go up a pass in 5th gear I eventually went to 33" and it was still good at taking hills. I pull a trailer full of quads over the pass quite a bit so I am thinking that the 4:56 with 31" would be a little under powered.
