Full fluid change from tran / tran case to diff. What type?

So I’ve had the truck for a little bit more than 1 month now. I’m going to finally get around to changing all the fluids in the truck from manual trans, transfer-case, to the front and rear difs. I was reading that 80W-90, should work all the away around. Is this correct? I bought 2 gals of it today, and a pump to help transfer the new fluids. And what’s the ideal engine oil to use with a 145k on the truck 1992 v6 3.0.

The book says 75W90 ... if you live where it doesn't get too cold 80W90 should be fine.

You can use GL4 or GL5 in the tranny/tcase, but need GL5 in the diffs. GL5 might be too slick in the transmission and you could get sloppy shifting.

It's a PITA to change the tranny and tcase ... I would HIGHLY recommend synthetic in there...

I went out and pickup 6 bottles of Lucas Oil heavy Duty 80w 90 say it exceeds the GL5 rating. The spec sheet is listed below.

For the transmission you don't want to use a GL5. A much better option is to use ONLY GL4 gear oil in your transmission and t-case. Your front and rear diff will do fine with GL4/GL5. You don't necessarily want to "exceed" the rating - you want to use GL4 because it doesn't have additives that wear out brass syncros in your tranny and t-case.

I would highly recommend Red Line MT-90 in both the tranny and t-case. Put the gear oil you got in the diffs - and all I use in my engine is Valvoline High Mileage 10w30 in summer and 5w30 in winter.

You'll need a 24mm socket

You likely already knew that, but I thought I'd shoot it out there just in case.

well i ended up putting the lucas 80w 90 in the rear and front diffs. the truck is a lot quieter now. so that's an a++ i will put the gear oil i have in the transmission case it should be fine. as all the books i've double checked said everything i've done is okay so far.

Yeah it should be OK for a while. If you do a search on this forum for "MT 90" you will get a ton of explanations as to why you shouldn't use GL-5 in your tranny and T-case. Though I'm pretty sure the manual says its ok.

Put the best synthetic (I use Lucus 75-90 synthetic) you can in the trans. They blow input bearings.

As was mentioned already, Redline MT-90 is great for the transmission. My tranny used to be tough to shift when cold, now, its really nice (no difference between cold or warm).

I'm using really thick oil in my rear diff as i have an Aussie locker, the oil I'm using is meant for cement trucks and is 85W140 instead of the recommended 90wt.
