I have a '93 4runner SR5, stock wheel size, no lift. I've been getting 10.5 MPG, and I drive like a grandma. I rarely get it above 2.5K RPM. I just got a tune up, and my mileage didn't increase. I know the 3.0 is pretty darn slow, but acceleration seems kinda delayed. My tie tod and idler arm are worn, so that is contributing a little bit to the bad mileage, but I feel like it should still be over 10.5 MPG. I just got new plugs, distributer cap, filters etc.

Should I use Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner? It got excellent reviews on Amazon. Could using this in anyway, shape or form affect the lifespan of my engine, or any other parts? I'm a high school kid so if the engine develops any problems I can't afford to fix it and my parents will probably sell it to a scrapyard . I'm all about reliability and stuff, so I want to make sure this 18 year old truck lasts as long as possible-it brought me home from the hospital the day I was born, and now I'm the one driving it! Toyotas FTW.

I used the Chevron additive in my Subaru and it did work. It smoothed out my idle and I'm pretty sure it took the crud out of the system because my fuel gauge worked a lot faster afterward.

I would try that first and then fill your neighborhood with plumes of smoke doing a seafoam treatment. I'd also start driving it harder, well, just because.

I have no experience with that engine, but thats terrible performance. I can't imagine fuel system cleaner making much if any difference. Probably would fail emissions check miserably too. My '89 4banger 2wd gets 28 around town and 33 on the highway, with 170,000miles on it. A professional engine analysis would probably pinpoint a non-functional component right away. Just changing parts and adding additives or snake oils of various kinds is probably going to be futile in the long run.

My fuel system cleaner of choice is Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant, for maintenance. Seafoam is good for the initial cleaning.

check engine light on? even if its not check for codes and post them up if you get any and im sure an expert on here can give you a small list of possible things to check and how to check. i read most fuel system cleaners took whatever ingredient out that actually made them work to a point of actually removing crud. They probably stillh elp a clean injector not clog up but i doubt youll see that stuff working any miracles but i could be wrong. Sea foam would probably be the better option as it seems to be proven on here but i have no experience wit it

Seafoam! Use half through the brake booster and the other half through the tank. I always use it on every vehicle I buy and every few oil changes. Look it up, there is a pile of tutorials online.

I used it in my 02 powerstroke before. IIRC it was .5 oz to gallon but I cant really remember. It gave me around 1.5-2 more mpg but I was running a waste motor oil/diesel fuel mix as well. Other than that I have no experience with it.
