fuel sending unit question

My fuel sending unit has been bad for years. My truck is an 86 22r(always reads full). I found a complete 88 22re truck at the local pull it yard. I'm going to have it on the rack today so I thought I might as well drop the tank and get the sending unit out of it. My question is is it the same unit out of 22r as well as a 22re? I've done a good bit of searching and can't find the answer.

According to:
http://www.toyotapartsoverstock.com/...332039465.html
The sender is the same 22r/22re from 1984-87.

Look around that site; you might find out whether the '88 fuel sender, despite the new part number, might fit your truck.

Thanks. I thought they were the same until 89.

Red face

Thing is if the gauge needs to see a different signal it won`t work.

Maybe change the gauge cluster as well.
