fuel rail problems

fuel rail problems
1986 22re...just got done replacing the intake gaskets and blocking off my egr crap...now for some reason my fuel rail well now stay in place...is the only thing holding the fuel rail on is the 2 "pins" sticking out of the intake?....i thought that was all i did when i took it apart but i dont remember (bad memory).....and advice would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks

well the fuel rail seems to pop in place all the injectors are seated in and its on the pins and if you barely touch it and all the injectors pop out and the rail is off the pins

looking in my FSM I see 2 bolts one on either end of the rails. I would assume that they are not tight or one or more of the injectors is not seated properly and is causing the rest to be off. I dont have a 4cyl though but i had the book near me and thought id give it a look. what do you mean by pins? i dont see those anywhere but again I have a v6.

theres 2 pins or bushings that are on the lower part of the intake and the fuel rail has to holes that slides of the pins...i dont see any bolts holding the rail on...confused???...thanks again for yalls help

There are also 2 black plastic washers on the studs, below and on top of the rail hold-down....
You can make them out in this pic (click for larger view)...just to the left/right of the center (of the three front/rear) intake manifold holes. It sounds like you left the washers/nuts off.

There are two bolts, correct? Have you torqued them to 14 ft/lbs? There will also be a fuel line that clamps on on the firewall side of the rail and a small vacuum line and a fuel line that bolts into the fuel rail with a brass washer and 33 ft/lbs of torque. I had a b***** of a time with this as well but my problem was ripping the small ring washers on the fuel injectors. If you haven't pulled them out of the rail they should be ok, unless the visible rubber looks deteriorated. If you do pull them and service them, be sure to apply gentle pressure and twist them back on carefully, or I guarentee you, you'll have to pull everything off and do it again because they'll leak with the smallest nick.
I don't know if I answered your question because I don't quite understand it. If you've threaded the bolts even just finger tight, the rail should be secure so long as the nozzles are lining up correctly into the holes.
