A week or so ago the high pressure line from the fuel pump had split at the right angle of the tube coming out the top of the tank. 1/4 tank gone in 15 miles, it was spraying fuel everywhere. A temporary fix was done in a parts place parking lot and I managed to drive the 80 remaining miles home.

So now I need a fuel pump housing but it appears there are 2 kinds for the '91 4Runner V6 4x4 auto. I can get one from a junked '94 V6 4x4 auto SR5. Will this work? Why the differences? I know I could take it out and find out right away, however its a daily driver and I'd have to put it all back together until the parts arrive, only to take it all apart again.

i believe the difference might be the fact there is two different fuel tanks in those. At least that;s what I found researching for a fuel level sender. I think they are a 17 gallon and a 19 gallon tank.

Hmm, at 14mpg, I'd love a 19 gallon tank. Mine is 17.

You can make that new tube. If you are talking abou the line that goes down from the from the fitting, through the plate, to the fuel pump, I made mine and it works perfect. The hard part was getting the fitting loose (I ended up replacing my fuel line all the way back to my fuel filter). I would just go to Autozone and get a steel brake line for $3. They have the fittings you need and already have the flare. I took mine fuel pump housing off of the tank, cut the bad piece of tubing off on both sides of the mounting plate. Then I drilled out the hole a little so the new tubing would fit through the hole in the plate. Then I just put the 90 bend in and the offset with a brake line bender, installed it and used a little JB weld to seal up where the tubing comes through the plate. It works great!! If you want I can send you some pics.....I am in the process of replacing my fuel pump, so I have it disassembled right now.

same thing happened to me. i was away at school and my mom was looking after the truck. every time she moved it, she smelled gas. hmmm... it smells like gas. so what did she do? fill up the tank. (granted, i was coming home for thanksgiving and she was trying to be nice) i get home and find that tube rusted through. i spent most of my thanksgiving draining a fuel tank and replacing a fuel pump bracket

i spent $300 on that bracket, and you make one for a hundredth of what i paid. gah! but i wouldn't mind seeing them pics

irab88 - I feel you on the tank draining!! When my pump went out I decided to do a 2.5" tank raise, since I have a 2" body lift. I had to drain the tank to take if off and move the brackets. That was such a pain in the backside! I had just filled my tank when the pump went out too!!

Here you go. I actually got the idea from someone here on yotatech. Th6" e green line is the new one. If you make the hole tight on the plate, you really only need to put the JB Weld on the top. If you look, you can see that the JB Weld didn't even come through to the gas tank side. The fix took about 15 minutes. If you don't have any tools at all, you would have to buy a phillips screwdriver, a tubing bender ($5 at Pepboys), a small tubing cutter ($3 or $4 dollars at Pepboys), and a piece of 5/16 brake line ($3 at Pepboys). So, without any tools what so ever, you could do the fix for $20 give or take and 15 minutes. Personally I replaced all of my screws and washers from the top of the fuel pump bracket as well. That took me an additional $2 or $3 dollars at Home Depot. They have metric screw and bolts there.
