I hooked up wires from the battery to the fuel pump after i removed it from the tank and it does not do anything. it's only maybe 2 years old. do they go out offen. Does somebody know what trucks or cars have the same pump. I may have to go with used until funds are better. what is max psi that can be used. Thanks for help, Jim

Hi Jim,

Not sure on the pressure. That's been mentioned around here several times in other threads, but I don't remember it offhand. I'd venture to say someone else will probably chime in about that.

Anyway....

As to whether they go out often.......um......typically a Denso unit will last for years. I want to say around 150k miles. Aftermarkets are hard to vouch for since they can vary in quality. They're highly mass produced, you know. So, if the sucker's a turd.....well, atleast it lasted two years....lol!

Lastly, you might call Nix99 or even actually PM DeathCougar on this. See what he has for you. That's what I'd do, anyway. Good guy with good deals. He likes to care of us YT's. IF he doesn't have anything, check the YT marketplace. Lots of guys parting out right now.

As far as what fuel pumps will fit. When I did my 5m-ge conversion on my 86 pick-up, I installed the fuel pump that went with the 6 cylinder out of the Cressida donor. It was bigger around than the 22re pump, but it was constructed the same and fit on the pump bracket in the tank like it was meant to be there. I ran it for a couple of years until I changed it to a walbro 255 l/hr. I was planning on turboing the 5m, never did get it done, but the pump was still good when I took it out. Just go to a junk yard, find an 86-89 Cressida, and get a pump. Check the resistance before you pull everything apart, a good pump should be around 37 ohms. It will probably outlast the truck!
