Fuel leak near tank.

I have a really bad sense of smell but thought for sure I was smelling gas the last few times I drove my truck. I had some time today to get under there when it was running and found a leak right under the filler cap area. Looks like there is just one line here inside the frame rail?
It looks to me like its coming from the line and not anywhere above that but not 100% on that.
This pic is from the front looking back on the passenger side.

Looks like you have a leak up on top of your tank and it is dripping down on your ebrake cable .

Might be in the tank itself a rock got up in there or one of the lines coming out of the tank on the fuel pump bracket

ok so thats the ebrake cable. Didnt look like a fuel line.

I guess I have to drop the tank or take the bed off to check it out?

yes indeed. sounds like your supply line rusted through. i pop-riveted a sheet of aluminum between the cab and bed to keep the fuel pump bracket dry. the bracket is a $300 part, or you could always jb weld a new supply line on.
that sucks. i had to drain an entire tank of gas on thanksgiving day.

Ive read a few threads and Im torn on which way to go. I can get a friend to help move the bed but those bolts may be more trouble than what its worth.
I guess I gotta get a flashlight and mirror and poke my head around some.

i found that you can "feel" your way around if you stick an arm up the side of the tank. i don't remember exactly, but if you follow the fuel pump wires, you should be able to feel the top of the bracket. if you put the truck up on jack stands, you can go to the driver's side and almost sit underneath the front of the bed. that might be your best bet to use that mirror. as for removing the tank, i used a jack with a small board (to prevent scratching) to lower the tank after i got the skid plate off. the problem i had was getting the fuel fill hoses disconnected. they did not want to come loose.
hope that helps

btw- if you do move the bed, could you post some pictures?

I backed up on my ramps and got under there with a mirror and found the leak.
The flashlight I was using died on me so I started using my phones led as a flashlight when I figured I would just cram the phone in there and take some pics.
I guess I need a fuel pump bracket and some lines?

If you payed $300 for the fuel pump bracket, you got seriously ripped off by whatever dealer you went through. I paid like, maybe $150 or so.

he-hey! i remember that! yep, i would definitely replace that bracket. as for the fuel line, mmm... only if it's flaking rust and/or leaking. also, all associated gaskets and screws, reusable or not. later this weekend i'll get some pics of the aluminum sheet that i installed to keep rain off

My local dealer. I do get a discount there because I buy a lot of OEM stuff between the pickup and the Supra, but it's not THAT much of a discount. LOL.

Another option is to try Jay Marks/Champion Toyota in Gulf Freeway, TX. I can PM you their number if you want, but they're super competitive with pricing, and usually cost less even after you involve shipping rates. That's who I used to use before I got a discount at my local dealer.

that part should only cost you $150 tops.

I replaced mine in 2008. I removed the bed to do the job, it was much easier that way. The bolts holding the bed down were not a big deal.

Why I had the bed off, I addressed the same underside rust issues you have. Since you are there you might as well take care of it.

Have a couple of buddies help you lift the bed off, it's pretty heavy with the tail gate still attached. Then you can set it upside down on some jack stands while you work on it.

Take a bungee and hook in onto the fuel filler over flow, or around the filler then hook the other side across to the frame. This will keep your truck from looking like it has an obscene male part flopping around and more importantly it will keep gasoline from dripping out of the fuel filler as it waves to other motorists. ( ask me how I know) Then zip tie your tail lights and license plate to the frame.

Make sure you do the prep work described in the POR-15 literature otherwise the coating will peel off. It's a lot of work but from the image in your sig pick your truck is worth it.

You can also POR-15 the fuel pump bracket and that should hold you for a long time.

Just bought one of these a few weeks ago.

With the bracket the gasket and new bolts plus Pa sales tax I think it came to around $ 185.00
