Fuel gauge problems

I want to do a sr5 cluster swap on my truck. I have all the stuff to do it and have plugged it all in everything works but my fuel gauge. I'd prefer to have a cluster that has a working fuel gauge because the sr5 cluster I got the fuel doesn't register and the needle doesn't move. So I went to a wrecker and got 2 other gauges. Unlike the original gauge they both move but they read differently. The base gauge which I'm positive reads correctly is at about a quarter tank. The other sr5 gauges read empty and about 3/4. Could it be that the sender unit is broken or was there different sender unit in sr5 vehicles. Or is it possible that they just aren't calibrated because I did play with the needles on both of them so not really sure where they were on the old vehicles if that even matters. Im going to go and put some more gas in it later to see if that changes anything. Also I have not come across any other threads with this problem so if you could point me to good threads that would be appreciated and I don't want to be told to look harder, thanks.
