I found out today that trying to replace the fuel filter on my 1994 4unner is a pain in the butt, and I mean big time. Fist off just to get the line off coming from the tank u one have 3 angles to pick from to get in there and in each spot you have about an inch to move you wrench. Then I didn't even know how to get to the other line going to the eingine. I just wanted to let ppl know of this major inconvience if you ever have to replace your. BTW I just gave up on and just tightened up the the nut that me a good half hour to get off. I was doing this in my auto tech class and my teacher who has been teaching this supject for about 27 years not wasn't even sure how to get it off. Has anyone else ran into this problem.

It's a real bear, but it does come off. Take the cover loose or all the way off and it's easier. You pretty much have to have two of the right size flare nut wrenches (14MM?) There're so hard to get off that no one changes them when they should. I hope someone's head rolled at Toyota for puttin it down there.

Ya i know idk i might try when i get back from christmas break beacause the only time that I have acesses to a full lift is at school. But ya someone's head better had rolled down at Toyota, haha. And ya there 14MM.

if its the 3vz like i suspect it is, then from what i hear, you should be able to lift the t/case and remove the crossmember to get to it easier...

Not trying to hi-jack, but I figure answers to my question will apply to the OP...

I called Jiffy Lube the other day and they told me it'd cost $60. I also have a coupon for $20 off a fuel filter change. Seems like $40 is a pretty good deal for the job, seeing as how everyone says it's a pain.

I have two concerns though. 1. Those fools might not know what they're doing, and will end up messing something up. 2. They'll realize how much of a pain it was, then charge me an arm and a leg.

What do you guys think?

Haha ya screw it up . . . fix it same thing. But ya lifting the T-case and removing that cross member looks like it would defiantly make it a whole lot easier. And yes it is the 3vz.

With my 3" body lift, there is literally tons of room! BUT my lines are totally seized.. Paid $60 for a toyota filter and Its sitting in my damn toolbox cuz I can't change it.

Ah the good ol fuel filter!
I had fun already changing mine out. Its do able! Might want to SOAK the heck out of those nuts on the fuel filter with some liquid wrench first. Then wait and do it the next day.
Mine were all chewed up from previous people who would change out the fuel filter before I got a hold of it. Taking off the cross member is a must! I almost wanted to cut mine off it was that bad!
Just think of it like this. Once you get it off and the new one on you should be good for awhile.

hahahaha, i though it would be fun to change mine to, i think my toyota filter has been sitting for about 4 months now lol.

My fuel lines were corroded to the fittings so the fittings could not be removed from the fuel filter without breaking the lines. This job is real easy if you just buy the fuel lines on either side of the fuel filter and just cut the old ones out. Use a socket wrench to break the fittings on the ends where you cut the old lines (cut the old line, leave the fitting, and use the socket on the fitting and a line wrench on the other line you want to save).

Had a friend changing mine out while i did something else to help somebody, he came over to me after he had already told me it was going to be a pain (and him probably being the better of the two of us to do the job) and said that we....I had a problem.... Asked what. He had snapped the fuel line. We ended up having auto zone bring some hose and make do filter. The temporary filter is still on and has been for over a year.

How much is a new fuel line? And where is best place to get it?
