fuel door lockcylinder
Is the lock cylinder on the fuel door the same as the ones in the doors?
Truck in question is 88 4runner sr5, 22re if that makes any difference.
I cna find door lock cylinders but no fuel door cylinders. Can't seem to find a kit either with the door locks and ignition cylinder all keyed the same.
Note: i have not talked to toyota yet about a lock set, not sure if they have them still or how much they would cost.

When mine broke I went to Home Depot and bought a cabinet lock and it fit in there and works perfectly fine. however if you don't want to take the cheap way out heres the lock for your runner. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-4Runner-Pickup-Gas-Fuel-Door-Lock-Cylinder-with-Keys-Factory-NEW-/161156622422?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AToyota%7CModel%3APickup%7CYear%3A1988&hash=item2585aee856&vxp=mtr

Cylinders do not look interchangeable.

Didn't think they were interchangeable, i didn't want to have to take them all to locksmith and have them re-keyed, not that its expensive just a pain as i live in small town thanks for the ebay link on the gas door lock.
I havn't looked at removing the door locks but i would hazard a guess and say that on the inside of the doors theres tabs on the lock cylinder to remove it? or is there more to it then that?

Removing Door Lock Cylinder Simple To Do
Tools needed:
- Rag. Yes, rag to remove clip that holds door crank,
- Philips screw driver for a few screws.
- Rope or good friend with a beer. He holds beer with one hand and the door panel up with other hand at window level while you work
- Very fine long-nose pliers for removing and re-installing clip-ring that holds door lock mechanism to cylinder.
- 10-mm socket & ratchet, in case you want to remove window regulator to lubricate/inspect
- Clean floor with no cracks/grate/etc so you do not drop and lose clips
- Most importantly quick and sharp eyes to see where clips went flying to - LOL!
Supplies:
- MP Grease. Not for door cylinder but good idea to lubricate the window regulator while you're in there.
- Oil/Silicone sparay to lubricate door cylinder
- Some plastic material or tape to mend waterproofing sheet if needed. I use Polypropylene document protector.
Happy Thanksgiving, guys!

I looked at installing a lock.
I poped a magnet behind the flap just above the lock hole.
Keeps it closed and was cheap, I also put a rubber grommet in the hole made it look tidy.
