front main crank bolt 3vze

HELLP!! front main crank bolt on a 3vze comes off counter clockwise right ?

I tried 400 lb impact gun would not budge than i tried a craftsman breaker bar with a 3 ft pipe and broke the socket, than used a impact socket than broke the breaker bar. you guys have any solutions to this. by the way the engine is clean no rust no grime.

Thanks!

Yes, counter clockwise to remove.

get a small torch and heat up the boldt till it's pretty damn hot. just don't get the pully so hot that it melts the rubber in the crank pully tho. then hit it with a gnarly air gun counter clockwise. this always does the trick. don't touch it for a while tho!

i tried everything too on my 79 when i had to change the front main seal, ended up using 3/4" pipe long enough to touch the ground to stay on,and hit on the frame, and with radiator removed, ie out of harms way, i bumped the starter and after all the noise/ratchet and cheater bar came to rest. the crank bolt was loose and not stubborn ever again!! lol. be carefull and try this at your own risk, but it worked for me

yeah. using the starter can work sometimes too. but when that doesn't work, heating it up always does. sometimes you just have to get it retartedly hot and use a manly air gun.

Don't heat too much; that could also damage the front main seal. In fact if you use heat, plan on replacing that.

I'd recommend a good tool to hold the crank, see this post for links:
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...14#post2924914

Then use a nice beefy half in drive impact socket, a nice beefy half in drive breaker bar, and about a 4 foot steel pipe extension on both the crank holding tool and breaker bar (or you may be able to brace the crank holding tool against the frame.)

The other thing to try is attach the impact socket and breaker bar, brace the breaker bar against the frame and flick the starter motor. Works on mine.

I used the impact gun on mine and ran it for about 5 minutes, the vibrations and torque eventually did the trick. No fun

use starter and leave everything connected so it can try to start, thats the way i do when the impact cant for 25 years and no problem if you take precautions.
