foward positioning on my SAS with 35's/set axle forward/backspacing recomendations???

Im about to throw a 4 inch (3 inch front) trail gear ifs illiminator in my 94 ext cab, 3.0, among many other things, but still am unsettled on a few things.

I know that one is to mount the new axle forwards a bit, when doing this, I think trail gear recommends .75 inch. however I have seen that people set it forwards different amounts on here, looks like depending on what tires they run.
Anybody in the know on this?? Im going for 35/12.5's cooper ltt's.

my goal is to keep my rig as low as functionally possible for wheeling. im only doing the 4 inch trail gear lift/sas, not body lift if I can get away with it. Im planning on cutting and hammering where needed to get the rub out...looks like a little fender trim and cut out the pinch weld is the way to do it??? any advice on this is also greatly appreciated. I saw wabbits photos on the pinch weld that will be helpful.

lastly, If someone has some recommendations on what backspace and rim width. ive looked around but i think I may still be confused on this one.

from what I can gather, if im going from 10.5s to 12.5s, thats 2 inches more, meaning only one more inch on the inside, so I would go with one inch of backspacing to match the stock position. is this the deal? what size rims do you recommend? got any for sale?
I dont want spacers.

soon the rig will be the rally wagon I have always dreamed of. no more stuck in the snow overnight, walk out 14 miles in knee deep of the white stuff kind of fun.

thanks for any input.

With 35'' tires you will want to move the front axle forward 2'', that will give you more clearance between the tire and inner fender.

Follow the installation instructions and you will be fine with 35s.

see what I mean though...trail gear says 3/4", someone else says 2".
I dont have the instructions in hand yet, so maybe they give a better breakdown than their web site...just trying to get in the know ahead of time so im not standing around arguing with my buddies on the better way to do it while the snow dumps in the hills.

any word on rims/backspace recommends with my particular lift and hammer plans. one inch BS?

Sounds pretty clear cut to me:

"With the front stock suspension removed and the frame cleaned, installation of the new spring hangers can begin. The front spring hanger has a front and back side to it. If you look close, the spring hanger ends are offset from the tubing by 1/8". These hangers should be offset forward for installation (see photo). The front spring hanger can be installed flush with the front of the frame or offset up to 3/4" forward of the front of the frame. On all factory 3.0L V6 applications we strongly recommend offsetting the front hanger forward 3/4" to allow the tie rod to clear the stock oil pan. This also angles the shackle a little closer to vertical and allows the springs to support the heavier V6 motor and transmission. When using our 5" springs we recommend moving the front hanger forward 1/2" - 3/4" depending on the weight of the truck.

Center the hanger left to right on the frame. Hold hanger in place with C-clamp (see photo) and tack weld hanger in place. Do not finish weld front hanger until after you have placed the entire weight of the truck on the springs and verified your shackle angle."

I have 3.75" BS on my 15x8 rims on my 85 ext cab...4" springs.

nice, all I saw was:

Note: On V6 installations, we recommend moving the front hanger forward 3/4". This allows the tie rod to clear the stock 4wd oil pan. It also kicks the shackles forward slightly helping the springs to carry the heavier load of the V6 motor.

One thing to remember is that with any leaf spring, when compressed the tire will move towards the 'shackle' since the shackle takes up and compensates for the elongations of the leaf during compression.
