Apparently the knock sensor and wire got in the way of the mouse. While Im in there is there anything else I should take care of? Im replacing the valve cover gaskets, the previous owner just did the timing belt and tensioner pulley.

I could clean up all mating surfaces, clean up some rust and hit it with some rust fighting paint.

Good idea to replace the knock sensor. If you do, use a factory sensor and torque it properly. I recently chased down a code 52 and I had to pull the intake again due to a faulty aftermarket sensor.
I have a friend with a landcruiser V8. Mice would chew up those wires every year or so. He finally filled the valley with steel wool and hasn't had the problem since

I really dont want to replace the sensor considering the cost. Im already over $200 into this in gaskets alone!! It seems that most people simply have an issue with the wiring and Im confident this is the case with mine. I'll definitely clean everything up and the steel wool idea is pretty good!

The truck was sitting for a while, not sure how long. I just bought the truck. but the truck is really clean otherwise. The body is banged up but the frame is really clean considering its spent its life in the NE.

Replacing the sensor for $50 now is a lot cheaper than tearing it all down again...just saying.
You can find toyota brand parts on eBay pretty check for the sensor..that is where I got my wiring for my tear down.

I did a quick check on ebay and didnt see any toyota brand sensors. Maybe I missed it? I certainly dont want to put an aftermarket one after reading the warnings around here. I guess I'll take my chances.

I'd replace that rusty coolant bypass tube. At a minimum, reseal it.

Anything in particular you would use to reseal it? Im wondering how much temperature would come into play.

Also, I dont suppose using anti-seize on the lower intake manifold bolts is a good idea? Seems some of the bolts go into the coolant passages (at least I hope so otherwise I have a big problem HAHA).

Toyota FIPG black is best. Where the bypass pipe attaches to the block there is a small circular groove on the pipe where a 1/8" bead of sealant goes. Some use UltraBlack or Gray RTV instead of the FIPG (form in place gasket)

Mouse pee can be very corrosive so the pipe may be rusting out by the looks of it. It's a dealer only item AFAIK.

Ok thanks. Im gonna get rid of the rust as best I can. Looking closely at it, it doesnt seem to have gone very deep.

Definately take that bypass pipe out, give it a good wire brushing, and inspection.

i had my intake off twice to replace the knock sensor and i replaced it with toyota parts the second time i looked at the plug. the male and female dont line up when pluged together on any of the knock sensors i bought. cut the plug off the wire crimped a new female on and no more code 52. my 94 truck with the3vzefe run better than it ever has.

Well, we got everything cleaned up an put back together double checking everything as we went along but the truck wont start It certainly smells like its getting fuel, the timing light is working and showing 12 degrees advanced with the diag. port jumped, which leads me to believe that it is getting spark. We tried playing with the distributor for timing and still nothing. I am getting code 51 still for the tps but that never stopped it from starting before. Cant think of any reason in particular for no start. Hmm...
