Flushing Auto Transmission-Sealant Suggestions?

The automatic transmission on my 95 4Runner started slipping a couple months ago, I finally got a chance to drop the pan and have a look.
First think I noticed was that the pan and filter cover were covered with a layer of thick, black gunk. There were a few small metal chips stuck in the gunk inside the filter pickup, but none on the magnets in the pan.
The transmission was working fine, then after it sat in the cold winter weather for a month or so, the transmission started to slip. It sits most of the year as well(I only drive it in the winter). I'm thinking that this gunk may be in other parts of the transmission as well so I want to flush the transmission and try to dissolve whatever gunk is in there. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to flush the automatic transmission and what products to use to do it?
Also, how about some suggestions for sealant to use between the pan and the transmission?
Thanks in advance-Ron B

Hmm, no advice on automatic transmission problems? Not surprised. This is the first automatic I've owned in a long time, they always let me down.
Anyhoo, I dropped the trans pan, cleaned the filter, put it back together, added a can of Trans Tune. Drove around a bit and the transmission is still slipping. Not surprising, lots of gunk in there. Gonna let it sit for a week or so, starting it up every day and working the fluid through the transmission to let the solvent do it's job. Then, I'll drain the fluid, drop the pan, clean the filter again and fill it up with fresh fluid and Lucas Transmission Fix. Normally, I don't go for additives and "fixes in a bottle", but I've got nothing to lose here; if this doesn't work, the transmission is shot and the 4Runner gets sold for parts.
