Flowmaster 40 vs Flowmaster 50

I am going to be getting a new exhaust system soon and am not sure which muffler to get. I know I want a flowmaster but am not sure on which one, I'm afraid the 40 series is going to be too loud but then again I'm afraid the 50series will be too quiet/ not sound as good. What are your opinions on said mufflers.

I think a 40 would sound good if you've got the cat on still
I did an LC Header straight into a 40 series and NO NO LOUD
I took it back to Flowmaster the next day and had them put a resonator on, now it sounds great. It even looks like a cat!

I guess it depends what you really want out of your exhaust system...how much tone you're willing to put up with. I talked to a Flowmaster tech when I was trying to decide on mufflers for my 4Runner. I don't remember him telling me any power differences, I think it was just volume level. The one thing I didn't like was that it would have needed special mounts or welding to mount a Flowmaster. I finally decided on a Dynomax Super Turbo. The thing bolts right up, got it done in about half an hour with just a ratchet and sockets. It flows more CFM's then Flowmaster and the volume level isn't overly loud inside the cabin. Not trying to talk you out of a Flowmaster cause I like them too but it might take a little more work to mount one.

well, first off what motor do you have??

i like my magnaflow with a stockish cat... it sounds deep and mean without being too loud... but then again i have a 3.0, so i dont know how it would sound on a 22re...

On my 22r i recently put a new Magnaflow cat on it with a Flowmaster Super 40 muffler and it sounds great! It is much louder than stock (but not too loud at all) but with a deeper tone to it. Plus with the Super 40 there is little to no in cab noise. =]

I got the 40 series delta flow put on yesterday. I had meineke custom bend and install the whole setup, so it was a bit pricey but well worth it. With my v6, it sounds really good but not outrageously loud, and there was a noticeable power boost. I made a blog entry on it, theres a link to a video of the sound of it too.

Because they didn't have prebent pipe in stock, I had to pay for an hour and a half worth of labor so the total came to 460 with tax. They charged me like 150 for the muffler, but what can I say... super happy with the result. I guess it was a bit of a rip, but it beat the hell out of working on my gravel driveway in 10 degree weather

I used a 2.5" Magnaflow cat and pipe back to a Delta 50 with my 22RE and liked it, swapped to my 7MGE (3.0L) and it still sounds good. Nice deep note at idle and noticable, but not loud inside at wide open throttle.

In retrospect though, I still liked the sound from my 2.25" Spin Tech best

I'm running a super 50 on my 22R. it has a downey tri-y header running 2.25" pipe to the super 50 then a y-pipe and tail pipes. it sounds pretty sweet. can hardly hear it in the cab unless the windows are down.

why dont you just get the flowmaster super 44. thats the loudest 2 chamber muffler flomaster has to offer. personally i wouldnt put a loud exhaust on anything except v8's and diesel trucks but thats just my opinion

Has anyone ever tried the Flowmaster 60 series? They were designed for the smaller engines and was just wondering how they sounded and performed.

I need a muffler and to fix a couple exhaust leaks from cat back. Any info on the QUIETEST "high pro" aftermarket muffler out there I could run with 2.25" pipe from the cat back?

(sorry about the hijack)

Flowmaster is a great muffler but I think there a little overpriced, I like the magnaflow - best flow and sound for your money 4 or 6 cyl. the dynomax muffler's are crap, had one and it rusted out in a year in a half and the shop wouldn't give any credit for a new one cause there not stainless.
If you stick with flowmaster then I think you can make your own choice loud or less loud.

I got a 40 on my 4runner , and it sounds pretty good , from what I have heard, it isn't loud inside the rig. my neighbor has a 50 on his jeep , and i can hear them coming up the road , and his wife says it is to loud inside the vehicle. I was lately thinking of going to the 44.
