Question Flow from the air vent question

On my '94 single cab my ac/heater fan is spinning like crazy, but I don't get much air out of the vents. If I hold my hand to the vent I get just a bit of air. If this normal? I really don't think the fan is the issue, at least the motor works fine. Any ideas?

sounds like you have an air leak in the piping somewhere

Or, maybe you have something like this between the fan and the A/C core:

The air has to go through that core to get to the rest of the system.

Ya, that was 17 years of dust and hair and everything else that goes through the vents.

Thats common on toyotas, its located between the fan housing and a/c evaperator, to clean it out you need to remove the fan housing.

Ya, that spot is between the fan and the A/C evaporator. Remove the glove box, and the fan will be staring at you on the far right. Cleaning that spot out will be tougher that if you could get the whole unit out.

Here is a pic with the fan on the right:

Does it come out without removing more of the dash than that?

It should come out with just the glove box removed, but it will take some patience. I had everything gone, but I was also stripping everything out of the truck too.

Got in there. I would like to disconnect the whole unit and take it out, but I'm not in the mood to pay for an evac and recharge of the AC. I think I'm going to try a wet/dry vac and see how much gunk I can get out. I didn't have the rats nest, but the blower certainly wasn't the problem. Here are some pics:

OK....it has to come off, the gunk is way too caked. When I remove it, there are just the AC lines? The heater core is closer to the center right?

also, am I risking ruining the AC system if I don't have the air removed ASAP, or am I good for a while?

You might want to try to remove the plastic housing first. You might be able to, but I think I recall a pair of fasteners that would have been a pain if it were in the cab.

There are the 2 A/C lines, and a drain. Not sure about ruining the A/C, i haven't had mine charged since I tore it down. That is a good question though. What exactly can get ruined?

I was thinking rust? Anyways, how the F--- did you clean it without ruining it. I took it off and I can't get the dust/gray goo out.
