Flooding in a 22re
well, ibought this 87 4runner with a rebuilt 60k miles ago 22re. The truck runs fine, other than the smell of gas occasionally and the truck is generally flooded or runs rich on a restart sometimes requiring several cranks to get it going and gas to cut out a rough rich idle at the very beginning and then it goes back to running fine. Im pretty sure the truck running rich or flooding is causing my issue. It doesnt bother me other than i dont feel like getting stuck somewhere because of it. What do you 22re experts recommend checking to cut this rich/ flooding issue out? If there are several things list what you would check in order for me please. Kinda on a low budget at the moment and gonna go a part at a time. Thanks in advance for any help

Sounds like the warm start issue some have, including me. This post explains one fix.

Thats almost exactly how mine does, it will need to be cranked several times and idle very very low, shutting off occasionally but then you get it past that initial issue and it runs like it is brand new. I dont know, when i bought it the guy had a spare motor and transmission, so i guess i will start changing some of the components and see if anything helps it.
