Flexplate bolts being too long but are same bolts thta...........

ok so i have an 84 4runner. well the body is 84 but the frame and all running gear is from an 88. the motor is 22re from the 88 4 runner. the transmission that originally came on the motor was 5speed. well im keeping the original trans from my 84 which is automatic. i got the flexplate from a guy with the original bolts from plexplate and it came off a 22re motor as well. he gave me the flexplate a small plate and just the bolts. well i tried bolting up the flexplate and the bolts bottom out. why would that happen if they came off 22 re onto another? is there washers or another plate besides the one i got with the deal? any help would be appreciated.

Wink

There should be lock washers on the bolts I am not sure if they are special as for being thicker then a normal off the shelf washer

you are talking bout the bolts that hold the flexplate to the crank right, and not torque converter?
there should be shims that go between the flexplate and crank flange

I think you have the wrong bolts, maybe they are for a fly wheel, or from an old celica.

I had a similar problem while doing my engine swap. I used the flex plate bolts from my new motor that originally had a manual behind it. My truck is an auto and it turns out the bolts from the manual are longer than the bolts for the auto so you might want to compare the bolts side by side, just a thought.
