Fixed my Speed O on my 86 4runner
This may seem mundane but I think it may help out a person or two.
When I bought my truck with 250K miles the speedo didn't work. First thought was to replace the cable (Check). The speedo came to life, but with a hitch. The needle jumped everywhere between 30 mph and 60 mph and some how I put 2k miles on it in one week. So this weekend I took the cluster out of the SR5 and and cleaned the little tid bits out of the rear fitting. I also took the clear cover off and gently with my figure I worked the needle up to a 120 mph and let it go back to 0 on it's own. I did this a few times. I hooked everything back up and she runs like a top and is just as smooth as a new truck when accelerating.
My thinking is that where the needle sat for so long that grease or clutch or what every gizmo just got hung up. It has been 5 days now since the fix and it still works great!
Cheers Pat
