I have run the stock skid on my 4Runner for years. Just depends on what you hit i suppose.

My skid plate has withstood much more then that. I am reinforcing it now though after hitting boulders it was kind of smashed. So was that a rocky pit that you were stuck in? Or was that not where it happened?

Naw, he high centered the IFS cross member in the mud and in the process of trying to get himself out, he kinda dug himself in. When i tried to pull him out the first time, 1. one of the strap broke, 2. the skid plate dug in like an anchor. The second time we used two good 20000 pound test straps and gave it a go and out he came. the skidplate didn't want to come with, ripping it from it's mounts and contorting it in a very odd shape. all in a day of wheeling.

that sucks dude.

Here are some of my friends cell pictures.

honda civic

front suspension was completely twisted. drivers side was sitting on the compression bumpstop and the passenger side was on the droop stop. rear was fully twisted too.

yeah it's a neat place. to really take advantage of all of the trails you need at least 33's IMO and or lockers. but there is a ton of places around here to wheel.
