Fan support bolts stripped?
Hey,
so it started out my fan wobbled for months until it broke popping my radiator.
new radiator new fan, still wobbles.
took the fan off and got an electric one on the radiator, when i was cranking down on the fan pulley bolts one of them got real tight then just started spinning, bolt and nut. and they wont crank down or loosen now. then i try another and it does the same thing. 2 are tight and the other keep spinning any way i turn.
now the fan pulley sounds like hell grinding and hitting something and now is wobbling even worse.
Any help would be great, tyvm

What nuts are you referring to? The bolts for the outer pulley thread into threaded holes on the balancer itself. If there are nuts, you have a problem. And if something metal is hitting, you have the wrong bolts in there.
You can helicoil the holes, or just get a new/used balancer and fix it correctly.

Is this a 3.0? If so, the fan is attached to a part called the "fan pulley bracket", which is an aluminum bracket that resembles a water pump at first glance. The harmonic balancer is the lower most pulley on the engine and is bolted directly to the crankshaft by a large bolt in the middle.
I think you're talking about the fan pulley bracket, which does have four studs for mounting the fan with four nuts. If the studs are twisting in the bracket, then the bracket is broken. It should be removed to see if the studs can be replaced but a new bracket may be needed. They can be found at junkyards or bought new at any autoparts store or online.

i searched around and it seems nobody broke those studs off before. i saw a few people talking about eliminating that pulley? since i got a electric fan i guess i don't even need it. if i could just rip it off and get a different belt that would be a nice and easy fix.
