exhaust leak and dash insert?

First. I've got an exhaust leak that's driving me nuts. It's right where the down pipe connects to the manifold. I've replaced the two little ring type gaskets and replaced all three of the studs but it still leaks a little, just enough for me to hear it in the cab and I can feel where it spurts out when the rig is running. I'm guessing that there is supposed to be a surface seal there but am thinking that I can make a gasket out of some material. Has anyone else done this or am I on my own trying to get this thing to shush

Second. I'm trying to put an SR5 gauge cluster in the 4runner. I've read the thread and know how to do it but the SR5 dash in the 86 pickup looks different than the dash in the 89 4runner. The runner has the SR5 badge on the rear but the title came up as a DLX. Is there a difference in the dash?

89 4runner.

86 pickup.

The pickup looks more like an insert and the runner looks like I need to peel the dash top off to get to the cluster.

Thanks cats!

Your talking about the trim around the outside of the clusters right? It looks like the '86(which is the same gauge that I have) inside black is one big piece unlike the '89. You're just going to have to take apart the trim and see what the clusters look like. I can see similar mounting screws between the two.

lol. Fixing that exhaust leak is fruitless, I think. My '93 had a leak there for as long as I could remember. Even after the downpipe cracked in half and I replaced it. I could tighten the bolts for maybe a week of relief, but after that, they would loosen and keep loosening. Theeen My '88 has a worse leak there. I can actually see the exhaust escaping on cold start. I tried tightening the nuts, replacing the gaskets, RTV everything on both of them and nothing. Hell, I used 4 sets of those gaskets on my '93 in a year! My '88 still passed emissions perfectly with the leak though. I don't think they noticed it....
Don't you hate not having a tach?
