Excess heat in the cab

Hey all,

In my truck (91 3vze 5spd) I seem to be getting a lot of excess heat coming in around the shifter area....
Makes the shifter pretty warm after drivin awhile

This is fine in winter but sucks in the summer.... I recently replaced the shift lever and ball and seat and when I had it apart noticed there didn't seem to be much if any insulation or whatever stopping the exhaust heat from coming in

Was there supposed to be insulation or something under the shift boots etc .. ? Would it really hurt anything if I stuffed some insulation around ...( truck has a bodylift so there's space between the tranny and the shifter cutout......)

Thanks

Paul
