I have a 1993 Toyota Pickup 4cyl 22RE 5spd with a broken timing chain in it.
I can order kits from Amazon or Ebay for a little less but I want quality parts worthy of my yota!

So, are ENGNBLDR kits and parts as good as they used to be?
I am wanting to order the Super Deal kit(TC Kit w/steel guide, TC Cover, Water & Oil Pumps) and top end Gasket kit with head bolts.


So whats your opinion?

I have not bought for a while but if they were slacking in quality it would be all over the internet.

Bad things travel fast good things make glaciers seem fast.

If I needed 22REC parts they would be my go to people.

Most of his parts are good. However, after my rebuild the water pump and head gasket went after only 40k miles or so (separate incidents). I would stick with Aisin water pump and OEM head gasket.

i bought my engbldr complete rebuild kit about 3-4 yrs ago great service fast shipping.
I like the fact that his kit came with steal chain guide, engine has 30K+ miles and still going with out any signs of slowing down well worth the money

when my 89 22RE needs work i would definitely buy from engbldr again

I ordered his kit back in 05, I think. It lasted about 30,000 miles and was done.

When I had my engine rebuilt, I used OEM.

The OEM chain is a lot higher quality, as are the gaskets. I did order a metal back chain guide from him, OEM's are plastic.

They're good parts, I just don't get the longevity I do out of OEM parts. As long as you know this, and prepared to redo the job in the future...go for it.

Drivers Guide - (told him I would buy elsewhere to get the steel one)
TC Cover - 358
TC Cover Gaskets - 20
Valve Cover Gasket - 24
Head Gasket - 65
Head Bolts - 10ea x 10 = 100
Water Pump w/gasket - 126
Oil Pump w/ gasket - 280

So for a total of $1482 !!!!!

The Head Gasket isn't bad actually, might even get that?

Well, I would at least make the critical parts OEM

Chain
Tensioner
Gaskets
Water Pump
Oil Pump
Head gaskets

Let me put it another way for you...

I keep asking my truck to break down...then I can fix something.

I thought so too! That's why I posted them for you to judge and tell me if they truly were too high. I am glad I did. I am trying to figure out the stock part numbers for the parts I listed below, I have got the chain, cover & head gasket so far, it is hard double checking each part number actually is the one I need.

the ENGNBLDR parts are awesome. I did mine probably a year and a half ago or so, everything went together awesome, ran like a top afterwards. I sold my truck to a friend and he has had no problems whatsoever. I would never buy OEM parts if I can help it (except electrical stuff). ENGNBLDR has great customer service and the parts came quick. I can't really speak for the longevity, but the sprockets and chains at least are probably bought from the same company as the OEM ones.

things like chains are standardized and must transmit a certain amount of power at a given speed for a determined longevity. I can guarantee you that ENGNBLDR cares more about durability than your toyota dealer, and whoever cares about that more will choose higher rated chain and sprockets. Get the double chain kit if youre worried about breakage (itll transmit 1.7 times more power than single row)

MAKE SURE you get the grommets for the valve cover and the half moons. Theyll probably be pretty bad.

Who can say really I spent a lot of money on 2 converters from the dealer only to have one fail in less then a year .

Anything can go bad or have a unseen manufacturing defect.

OSK is available on ebay which is oem. Grabbed steel guides from DOA but way overpriced . I wasnt all that impressed with my EB timing kit(tensioner failed but he stood behind it)but cylinder head and cam were worth the money.

So you think I should pass on the OEM stuff other than the Head Gasket. And get the Super Deal Kit from ENGBLDR and the Head Bolts too. I would still need a Valve Cover Gasket Kit, ENGBLDR had theirs with the Head Gasket as a top end gasket kit with Head Bolts.



Also on a separate note I keep running into this issue, what is the difference between OEM vs Aisin vs OES vs Genuine?

aisin...brand of alot of factory parts.


Use everything engnbldr....except...head gasket...thermostat. Get those from local dealer. Good time to go in there and say hi to them anyways.

Call your order in to engnbldr and talk with them. Most informative man I know on the 22r 22re. Friendly...honest...good guy. It's not just about their parts...it's them as real honest good people as well.

Get the top end kit...just set the gasket aside. Some will say its fine. Might be. I just know the oem one is a proven performer.
