Question....where do u connect the chains to pull the motor? That little hook thing in the head? Also what are these connectors in the photo? I'm assuming they're emission related, they were unplugged when I got to them.

They're on the passengers side of the engine bay, that is the fuel filter next to my hand

Dunno what your plugs are. With the exception of the injector plugs most of the plugs are color and shape coded so whereever they fit is probably correct.

The blue one looks like the one that plugs into the back of the IACV. The white one looks like the plug for the transmission reverse light...

The blue one I don't think is the IACV because there's no way in hell it could reach the throttle body (in my experience every IACV has been on the throttle body, maybe Toyota might be different?) Also my reverse lights worked last time I drove the truck and I did not unplug either of these wires. I'll dbl check the reverse lights this afternoon.

89+ had the IACV on the throttle body. 85-88 had the IACV under the intake manifold. Two completely different set-ups...

The white plug may be your 4x4 indicator light as well...

So here's a question for anyone that's pulled the engine....The manual says to pull the transmission and engine at the same time. I'm not claiming to be smarter than the manual but it seems fairly straight forward to remove the engine without the transmission coming out. I see all the bolts connecting the two and they're accessible. Any suggestions?

Pulling the tranny makes putting it back in easier if I remember right been along time since I've pulled a motor

You can leave the transmission in. Just be sure to prop it up somehow. Top 2 bell housing bolts are accessed through the shifter cut-out inside the cab using about 30" of extensions. You'll need a jack underneath during reassembly to get the angle of the tranny right.

I'm not sure how you can tell from those pictures, granted I an an amateur, but all I see is milk shake colored oil coolant mixture. It came apart pretty easily, well see if I can remember where all these parts go in a week haha. I'm sending it to the shop Monday. Let's hope it's okay; I dont want to have to pull the other motor out of the 84

Okay so six months later the engine is built and installed, now begins the task of remembering where things went. So far its gone pretty smooth, however, I'm still stuck on this connector (see picture on first post) I figured out the white one, but the blue one is still a mystery. The blue connector for the IACV on top of the valve cover is plugged in; this is something different. Does anyone know where it goes? The previous owner deleted all the emissions from this truck, I'm not sure if this is related.

No, That one is accounted for. this one is dangling near the starter and fuel filter.

I have the 3.0, and a similar looking plug was for the AC pump (if you have AC of course)... thought I'd throw that out there.. Took me a while to figure it out on mine.. lol.

I do have AC but I have the 4 cylinder not the v6. I'll have to check that out, thanks.

Hm, how about back towards the transmission? The only other spot i can think of is ont he front of the intake manifold on the front side. On my 22RE one was green and the other black, not blue.

Knock sensor is a totally different shape. As is the oil pressure switch/sender.

It's the Cold Start Inj plug either, mine was black and that one is really obvious.
