I was just reading JOSHUAPC's post on valve adjustment. Since I need to replace the valve cover and my service manual calls for valve adjustement 10,000 miles ago, I figured I could take the advice you guys were giving and do it. I didn't want to hijack his post but I was wondering how hard a valve adjustment is?

**Note that I do everything I have ever needed myself, BUT I always multiply the amount of time you guys say it will take by 2 (or 3) because I am a marginal mechanic and tend to make more work for myself.

I also have a question about a "knock" or "ticking" I get from 2000rmps to 2250rmps that is quite noticeable. I have been told it is a timing issue...Does this sound right or could it be something solved by a valve adjustment?

I'm on spring break this week and the construction industry is dead up here so I'll have plenty of time during the days to mess around. Any input is appreciated.

its very simple. My first time adjusting the valves took about an hour, mainly because I was checking everything out. (first time digging into an engine) Its very straight forward. All you need is a 10mm, 12mm, 17mm, a feeler gauge with .008" and .012", a flat head screw driver, and a spark plug socket (not necessary, but removing the plugs makes turning the engine easier.)
Well, get the valves adjusted and if the "knock" persists, get a video/sound clip. That would make diagnosing it much easier.
