Exclamation emergency 4runner engine problem

I have an emergency I did the oil change on my 90 4runner, a week later it started blowing smoke and oil from my my dipstick tube. This is my work vehicle it started doing this after 3 days at my new job. Without the truck I can't work and I'm the only source of income in a family of 5. Can someone please tell me what might be wrong and how
much I should be looking to spend. My dad got this truck for me and he said it had a rebuilt engine. I used to drive my truck a lot in last about a hundred miles a day. Hope to hear from someone soon

First welcome

Second
post up more about the truck itself. what do you have???
How does it run? rough idle, no power under load, ect.

Were gonna need a bit more description about what all is actualy going on.

As for cost well it will always vary. could be $.02 to 3k just depends

thanks for the welcome. The truck is a 90 4rumner with a 4L 22re engine, stick shift 4wheel drive. I've had the truck for a little over a year and had'nt given much trouble before it was running sluggish but after I changed the clutch it ran like a champ. A week after I changed the oil I was at work when I noticed smoke coming into the cab but wasn't sure from where the truck was running kinda rough so I took it home and notice my whole engine compartment was full oil and it was coming from the oil dipstick. I had to move a few weeks ago and I drove the truck to it's new location, it ran great but it blew a lot of smoke and the idle was rough at times I thought it was going to shut off but of never did. The truck has been sitting in my driveway and I need to get running asap. Once again Thant

Check your pcv valve and make sure you didn't overfill the crankcase.

il pressure has been good, at least as far as the gauge is concerned.

is it smoking at all out the exhaust or is it just oil burning on the manifold after spraying from the dipstick? also, can you tell if the oil is coming from the top of the tube or the bottom where it enters the engine?

and another thought- how's your power steering fluid level?
I'm thinking that it may just be a coincidental leak in the pressure line from the steering pump.

there is no smoke coming from my exhaust I pulled out my dipstick and the smoke is coming from inside, its not just the oil on the manifold burning and if I accelerate the engine even more smoke comes out of the tube.

since you're saying the smoke is coming from inside the tube, you're probably seeing blowby. it is possible that the new oil has managed to do a dandy job of cleaning your rings and causing them to not seal as well. however the pcv valve should be scavenging the blowby into the intake.
what weight oil did you use?

Well, if PVC is known good, oil fill cap gasket is good and oil level is correct then you have something causing excessive crankcase pressure or have abnormal/excessive cylinder wear.

I suggest you have a compression test, radiator tested for exhaust gas presence and check the engine vacuum at idle to see if its normal.

Report back with your findings.

another question: you say you're seeing smoke from the dipstick tube- it is normal for there to be some smoke visible... so can you explain how much smoke is coming from the tube at idle? Like say a cigarette burning amount, or is it much, much more?

its more than that perhaps like when you leave toast in a toaster and forget about and smoke comes out.

20w50???????????? thats not good for the 22res my friend im using 5w30 sin and yes 20w50 will make way to much pressure and cause it to do this i say change it and put some 5 30 in her and see if that helps not good running that much

my sister had a jeep (sorry i droped the j word) and she put in 20w 50 then she though it was low then i change the oil and put it this way i took out about 15-20 quarts of oil i though it was going to blow up and yes it was smoking and puffin everywhere and with this high thick oil you can do more harm then good with a nice running motor

try 5w30 with a new filter i wouldnt go any higher then 10w30

anyhow, that sounds like a bit too much smoke to be considered normal. Mine gives off about as much as a hot cup of coffee.
it's funny the ways we come up with to describe things, no? lol

suggest a compression test is in order- may have some bad rings.

I run 20w50 in mine with no problems at all and 238K on the odo.
matter of fact, it smokes out the tailpipe with 5w30, barely, but noticeable.
the guys at jiffy lube scowl at me when I spec 20w50.
the problem with the jeep was that it was overfilled, nothing more.
