Electrical Diagnostic Help

Hi, I have a 93 4Runner V6 5 Speed 145K. This beast is starting and idling rough. The only known problem, there is a ticking lifter. I was told there is a way to get diagnostic info on the truck by jumping some terminals on the diagnostic plug under the hood. Maby someone knows if I can get any type of diagnostic reading without taking it to a shop that would be very helpful. Thank you for the help. Kyle

a ticking lifter?

mine do that from time to time, not related to rough idle though.

o2 sensor or plugs/timing is my bet. also check your air filter. not in that order haha. "Read" your plugs, if its anything air/fuel related, they'll tell the whole story, unless they're just shot.

good luck!
