EGR stuck open or closed?
When vacum is applied to the top of my EGR valve the engine does not change idle at all. Does this mean the EGR valve is stuck open or closed?? Im trying to track down a miss at between 2000-3500rpm under no load, I have replaced a bad TPS and timed it to 5 deg. also checked the vacum modulator and plugs as well as plug wires.I can not really tell if the miss is going on while driving due to loud tires and exhaust but I do not believe so as I can pull hills good. the engine is a 89 22REC , anyone with info would be great Iam going Turkey hunting next month and have a 800mile drive ahead and would like to get this fixed before I gom, thanks

im not sure if they open or close with vacuum but it sounds like its stuck closed. generally when you open an egr at idle the engine will come close to, or die

I believe when you apply vacuum it opens the valve. If you're at idle and you open the valve the engine should sputter out and almost die. That's what mine did. So yours might be stuck closed.

I also noticed when I pull off the egr temp sensor at idle air is blowing out so if its stuck closed would there be no air Im not sure if open or closed, but vacum applied to it does nada
