EFI conversion help
Ok so the other day one of my friends gave me a complete 1990 4x4 Pickup with a 22RE. So I now should have everything I need to do an EFI swap. I have read everything I could find on the topic and I am still a little unclear on just what I need to cut and splice on the wiring harness. I read the conversion FAQ on pirate but the info only pertains to 84-88 pickups I have a 1987 4x4 Pickup with the 22R. I need to know what parts of the old harness need to go and can stay. What wires I am going to have to splice to make everythig work. Any help would be a HUGE help!!! Thanks!!

OK HERE WE GO! Keep all of the old harness in place so you can splice into it when needed. It won't hurt a thing for the old harness to be left where its at. Now,as for the new donor truck all you will need is everything on the engine harness thru the firewall to the computer. When your at the computer(ECM), keep everthing going into the ECM and what is comeing out of the ECM about 5" inches past the computer, cut it there. as this is where you will splice in the keyed power and the constant power source. OK now back outside under the hood, make the truck you are putting the EFI into, look exactly like the donor truck it came out of. Trust me it will fit and if you are neat about it when your done it will look like it came that way. Drill a 2"inch hole into the firewall on the same side as the donor truck right along side the original truck harniss and run it thur there. You will need the wireing diragram from both trucks to find keyed power and constant power source. It only takes about three wires powered to run the hole thing.find them on the diragram and power only those wires, don't worrie about the rest of them it won't make a differance if there wired to anything. Under the hood just splice the temp and the oil pressure into the harniss form the donor truck. Use everthinng else like it is.You will also need a relay from the donor truck to run the fuel pump. The realy next to the heater will work. cut it out of the donor truck and splice in into a keyed power source. I hope this will help some. Got more Q's let me know and ill will do my best to help.

Bump Does anyone have a write-up on exactly which wires need to be spliced?? Do I need the EFI exhaust system to? What needs constant power and what needs switched power? I really want to have some know how when I jump into this project! I would take the entire wiring harness and change it but I think that the 1990 harness is a little different from the 1987 harness. I have done alot of searching on this and still have many questions! Any help is a great help!!

You can call you local Toyota dealer and ask to see if they have a wire diagram of both trucks you are working on. If you don't know how to read one it can be trickey. See if you can get help from a auto tec on what is keyed and what is constant powered. I've done this swap 5 time's now and each one is a little different. Take your time and it will work out, pluse its well worth it in the long run.And yes you will need to use the O2 sensor from the EFI exhaust system. Ether weild it in or use the exhaust from the other truck,it will bolt up.

I put a EFI setup out of an 90 pickup into my 87. I swapped the dash to use the new harness rather than splicing the wiring harness. Only draw back is now I have to open the door to roll down the window.

I'm thinking about doing it but I can't decide if it's worth the work rather than building up my 22r with a weber, header/exhaust and a few other things.
