ECU Self-Diagnosis (Paper Clip)

Trying to check for codes using the paper clip method and I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.. Doing this on my other vehicle theres a very noticeable pause in between different codes yet when I'm trying on my 22re it just seems to flash over and over with no definite pause in between codes. I can see it flashes in between each flash somewhat slower than other times but.. seems wrong...

Yeah...that's what it does when you don't have any codes...nothing's wrong...perfectly normal.

Yeah thats what I was thinking.. Just didn't want to believe it since my truck has been running like absolute crap lately. Really sluggish acceleration in first through third gear. Had a big mpg drop, stumbling at low rpms and now its starting to idle bad..
Thanks for the info

Replace O2 sensor.

Check for vacuum leaks.

Currently don't have a CEL so I figured I could see if I had any stored codes but I guess I don't. Wouldn't a bad O2 sensor give me any type of code? Not seeing any leaks either.

OBD I diagnostics aren't that sensitive, it's usually only going to give you a code if something is BROKE.

Concur. Never had a CEL from O2 sensor on these older model vehicles.

I have. On my '86 22re, I had a code 5 I tried to trace down for a long time. Turned out the AFM was going south. Otherwise, I've never had an O2 code from anything else. Even from a vacuum leak. If you're O2 was to become disconnected, though, that would certainly cause one.

if you put the clip in and it just flashes "on-off-on-off-on-off" ad infinitum, you don't have any stored codes.

why are you asking, A2theK?
