i have those same housings and i just upgraded to a set of osram night breaker +90 bulbs. when aimed right they are a very good combo and throw light wide and far. with the brights i can see 1/4 mile down a flat straight road. the bulbs that come with them are better then stock but there is definitely a lot better out there.

How does the pattern/coverage compare to these hellas?

If quality and everything is similar I might consider the ebay ones. Last time I checked $25<$100!

Not bad! The lense looks almost the same as my hella e-code.

The hella housing has the little umbrella reflector thing in the middle, and the ebay one doesn't (hopefully someone will know what I'm talking about) Don't know if that makes any difference, or if it justifies the price difference, just putting it out there.

Just ordered mine. I can't wait to get them in, and if they aren't that good, oh well I'm not out that much money.

Thanks for the great tip!

Don't worry, ANY e-code lamps gonna be worlds better than a sealed beam. You'll be very happy with the new lights.

Couldn't help but notice the "off road use only" sticker. Is there any reason that it would be considered off road only?

Guess I will have to remove that to make it street legal

The reason they say for off road use only- is because
they have a european beam pattern meaning that they do not throw any light up to light up over head signs. Over in Europe all signs are required to be light up by them selves, not requiring light from head lights to light them up.

making them non DOT approved

Thanks for the answer. Either way they should be a heck of a lot better then the stock sealed beams. I should probably get that order into 4crawler for a new wiring harness too. All told this will still be cheaper then doing the hella conversion!!! :-D

Never knew that!!

I bought the Hella ones about 11 years ago. I had them on my 87 p/u for 7 years. The pattern is wide but not as tall as the stock sealed beam. It disperses the light better and you can put a higher amperage bulb in them. I highly recommend the H4 updated wiring harness. It makes them brighter and when you switch on the high beam, the low beam does not go out. I bought mine from NWOR years ago but Summit sells the kit and it is worth it. You can make your own kit which is not that hard to do.
