dual battery mod for 94 3vze

at some point, hopefully soon, i am going to add some kind of deep cycle agm to my 4runner's arsenal of modifications. this extra auxilary juice will be for powering my accessories including laptop, lights, stereo, air compressor, and anything else i can think of later down the road.

has anyone done this to their 94 3vze runner? if so where did you install/mount the battery? what isolator did you use? what battery did you use?

well i dont have what you have but i think its all the same i just put a random good working battery in the back of my runner behind the seat and ran a 4g wire from the front battery to the rear battery with a 150 amp fuse up front and a 100 amp fuse at the rear battery and then grounded it to the frame easy easy easy easy hope this picture works out for ya not the best but it was with my old camera phone from 3 story window lol

and yes this was before i painted it and broke the sunroof and did the snorkle and the rear bumper and everything else!

I call shenanigans, on you Allan!!! shenanigans! shenanigans!
I, too, want to do this in my '91, but either use 2 Ultima red tops, or a red and blue top. I think the blue top is the deep cycle batt. Or is it the yellow top? I'm just too tired now to look it up, but you get the gest of it....

oh yeah huh? At least I didn't forget the "a" this time. Ok question, since you hooked your batts up like that, with no oscilater(SP?) switch, have any problems with charging or over charging both batts?

Here is how I did mine

Small mod to the over flow bottle(turned out ) and a Optima battery with a NAPA battery hold down works great. The blue thing on top is the is a dual battery splitter you run a hot from the alternator to it and a hot to both battery's with the second battery add the ground and it charges them both equally.
The rubber on the battery splitter is just a extra safety measure so the hood does not ground out the splitter and I used the zip ties only because I am getting ready to do a 3.4 swap and want to be able to make sure all will fit back like this after doing the swap I will make a more permanent mounting space for it.
The optima run's all my extra's and the stock location battery only run's the stock required electric's

Almost forgot to menition that the left fender where the second battery is located has one hole pre drilled so a quick drilling to fit the battery hold down bar is all that is needed to make it work took me about 1/2 hr to do the battery and overflow mod. Adding the isolator only took about 15 mins once the wires were fit to it all so in under an hour I had this done.

over charging? never kill one and charge the other never both where at the same volts and everything even though the one up front was a 750cca and the one in back was only a 450cca they still did fine for 2 years no problems ever

uhh isolators are key, without them the batteries will kill each other if left for a few days.
