dry metallic scraping noise from the rear end, quieter when braking
as the title says, I have a dry metallic scraping noise somewhere on the rear axle of my truck. kind of sickening, actually. but yeah, it quiets down (doesn't disappear) quite a bit when I brake. JUST got it back from my mechanic. he said it all looked good. wheel bearings, rear diff, rotors.
Any input would be appreciated. I really don't want to wait for something to break before I figure it out...
thanks guys!

possible that its frozen as it has done that to me before. I will disassemble that and clean it all up soon anyways, as I want it to be 100%, but I also wanna eliminate anything that could rack up some serious $$ in repair bills. def a good thought though!

I have a similar sound from the rear end of my truck. I don't think that mine has to do with the brakes do to the fact that I just rebuilt them, turned rotors, new shoes and what not. My wheel bearings seem to be good but I still plan on taking it apart to try to find the problem...the lube in the rear end looks gross anyway so it will need changed regardless. The only thing that I noticed that it could possibly be is the back plate rubbing on the drum, backing plate is a little bent.

check to make sure your rear brakes are adjusted properly - maybe one side is dragging more than the other or something.
my truck drags on the rear right and it has symptoms exactly like that.
