drivers side rattles like crazy going over rough terrain

my truck has beenrattling like crazy going over speed bumps and rough terrain. it also makes the noise when i sharply tap the brakes. i go underneath the truck and pull on the cv axle up and down and side to side. theres play and makes a mettalic clunk when i pull on it. think it might be the spindle bushings? thanks

I had a really bad rattle. It turned out to the the front bumper making contact with fender. I stepped on it and bent it back down. I'm sure was missing a fastener or two...

Do you have ADD? Then it could more so be the cv like you mentioned. Do you wheel a lot? or any? Recently, after a long, rough, offroad trip, my 4runner developed a terrible rattle over bumps and stops, etc. Ended up being the front drivers lower shock bolt came loose. Check things like that.

Check your idler arm and make sure you have that C clip that holds the CV inside the spindle, behind the hub dial.

havent been doing much wheeling lately but it has been rattling for about a year now but now its getting more worse. so im probably gonna grease the spindle today and see if it still ratles and check out the front end, i know i need a new outertie rod on the pass side and everything else in steering seemed tight. and ill check out for a loosened bolt. thanks for the help

my front wheel bearings developed a tiny bit of play that translated to a clunk/rattle type of sound on any washboard, sharp bumps, etc. i couldn't feel it by grabbing a wheel at 10:00 and 2:00 and rocking the truck back and forth laterally with it, but jacked it up, took the weight off of the wheel and then i could rock the wheel and feel the play-there should be none. my cv's have a little rattle too...but all the noises went away when i repacked and properly adjusted the preload on those bearings.
with the truck jacked up, it might be easier grabbing top and bottom of wheel so you don't mistake steering movement for bearing play...there will be an obvious clunk if that's the issue
ball joints ok too?

Yeah idler arm is likely, mine just went out a few days ago. Was making a horrible loud clunk and rattle.

yeah ive replaced the idler arm. checkedout rest of the steering and replaced an outer tie rod. but when i roll forward and turn left ect when parking, the truck pops. it still rattles when i drive over speedbumps and bumpy roads. ive stuck a needle greaser and greased between the cv axle shaft and spindle thinking the spindle was dry and it still rattles. i justdont want to throw money atparts that i dont even need

this is an old thread but i thought your comment might be my problem , my 92 rattles over sharp bumps on the drivers side . i checked everything i can think of . i can get it to rattle jacked up and hit the tire hard with my hand . i finally noticed that if the hub is in lock position it quits .
