Downpipe/bellhousing bracket
Recently bought my 1993 22re, replaced the downpipe, manifold, and the gaskets down to the cat. A week has passed and the gaskets under the manifold to the downpipe have blown and the nuts are backing off the studs in the manifold.
Did a little searching of the interwebs and it looks like im missing a bracket that holds the downpipe up to the bellhousing, im assuming thats the reason my gaskets blew (the undistributed weight backed the nuts off). Does anyone have a picture of the bracket? im thinking i want to fab one up.
Also if anyone thinks this wont help my situation and have some advice id love to hear it
Thanks in advance

Its not mine you bought, is it?
wait can't be..mine had the bracket...
I had the same problem with the O-gaskets between the manifold and downpipe on my '93 22re as well. Never fully got it fixed. I went through 4 or 5 new pairs of those gaskets in a year. I tried wrapping them in tin foil, using muffler tape, duct tape (obviously didn't work ), using FIPG. The best results were from the tin foil wrapped gaskets. I still blew them when I revved to 5K when I almost got stuck in some snow on the side of the road. hehe. The studs were missing when I bought it and were replaced by bolts. Try using some loctite type stuff. It worked for me, but I think I used the wrong kind and it burnt off after like 2 weeks.
and its not really the weight thats backing them off, its the being heated to high temps, expanding from it, cooling, shrinking, and rattling of the engine/exhaust.

Probably not yours haha, im down here in WA. Although the studs were replaced with bolts on the old manifold (they were all sorts of messed up and cross threaded) and the downpipe was welded together in two places and was leaking out of both welds.
Im pretty sure any type of locktite (blue or red at least) will burn off that close to the engine. I want to try to put a jam nut on the stud behind the plain jane nut or a lock washer. But i dont think that will help much if theres no bracket to distribute that weight properly.

Had the same problem on my 89 4runner. The nuts that were on the studs were brass and would heat and cool and work loose. I tried lock washers (doesn't work once the washer gets hot), tried putting two brass nuts on each stud and jamming them together (didn't work either). I finally went to Napa and bought a new stud set to replace two of the studs that were messed up and bought three steel nuts to replace the brass ones. It hasn't started leaking in about 1000 miles, it used to leak within 10 miles with the brass ones on there.
I do have my little bracket but it's sitting on the shelf with a bunch of other parts. Try some new studs and steel nuts and I think you'll be fine.

yea i have the brass nuts set, this is my first back off and the studs have been in there less than 100 miles. Think i can get away with just some new nuts?
I believe the nuts are M10 1.25 pitch, right?

I used red loctite on the manifold studs for my turbocharged honda, I can guarantee that created more heat than the 22re ever will. I went to take the manifold off a few months afterward and the loctite still held strong.

I think they are indeed M10 1.25 pitch. I'd say go get the new nuts and put them on.

Had some extra time today so I just popped under the truck and checked if the nuts backed off. From what I can tell they haven't moved a bit as of 80 miles.
