i just acquired a '90 4runner and i do most of the maintanance on my vehicles. does toyota make a factory repair manual? or what is the recommended repair manual?

also, is there a website that has a parts fiche with factory part #'s and diagrams?

I highly suggest downloading Httrack and ripping a copy of that site in case it ever disappears. I did.

Try pulling this site. I couldn't get it, you end up missing 5 files (but get 3500+ files in 86meg). I have the backgrounder if you're interested.

but, is there a recommended manual (book)? i am new to japanese vehicles. also, what about a website that has toyota part #'s and diagrams?

with suzuki motorcycles, i am able to go to dealers' websites and order through the official suzuki parts fiche with real suzuki part #'s. bmw also has something similar. both are extremely helpful! is there something similar for toyota vehicles?

i am also glad i found this website because i will be taking my '90 4Runner today to have the steering link repaired under the recall! sweet.

I let it rip that site just for grins and it got almost exactly what you said.

When i run it though everything looks to be there and everything works fine. However, I noticed that IE says there is blocked content on the page and when I allow the blocked content it kills the page and I get a 404 error.

I close it and reopen and it works fine again because the content is blocked again. The page has an embedded script or Activex control that kills it when you let it run.

I'm running IE7 public beta.

Hmmm... interesting. It sounds like you may have gotten farther than I did.

The site is coded in RoboHelp (a macromedia product) and two of the files I get stuck without seem to be "on purpose" as a proection mechanism. The references to them within the scripts could be obfuscated deep enough that the ripper couldn't discern their location.

Anyway, I specifically get stuck without:Trying to use HTTPGET (or other methods) to grab this stuff didn't pan out.

I also figured that the first two objects were the most important, and that ANY RoboHelp application should have them. So, I downloaded and installed the RoboHelp trial, then built a simple web based doc help system, and... nothing that popped out at me. Taking the absolute binaries from my sample and dropping them into THIS app didn't work - it may be 'cause the binaries are keyed to the application.

And, that's about where I ran out of steam to look into it, and haven't revisited it since...

Those are the same files I'm missing and the exact same numbers I got.

Try disabling all activex and scripting in your internet options and turn your security to high, block internet access with your firewall temporarily, close and restart IE and see what happens.

I hate to even suggest upgrading to IE7 just for this, but it is a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. I'm using all of the default settings in the new version and I can open and read the files just fine until I allow the blocked content.

I let it update the stored web site to see the numbers again, and the first 5 files it tries to download are the ones you listed.

The scripts are the key I think... It works just fine locally for me.

So for the record for everyone else, get Httrack and back up that website then disable java locally to get it to work on your computer.

Then enjoy the free service manual!
