Do I need shackles?

I bought a set of sky jacker leaf springs from JCWhitney last night since it's free shipping on ANYTHING there until tomorrow night at 12. I figured 134 bucks for a brand new set shipped to my house would be a great deal plus I can get rid of the saggy springs on the truck. I mean one is literally parallel with the road with no weight in the bed and the other is slightly curved up still but not by much.

So, when I go to replace these springs should I replace the shackles as well or should I just redo the bushings and grease them before I install the springs?

Youll be fine with the stock shackles.

However, a longer shackle will add a little more lift, and might help the spring flex a little better.

Mashashin, I have an 85 was saged rearend 4runner and the 6" eye to eye equals like 1.5-2" lift , got rid of it . But since you just got suspension "for the rear"? I'm assuming you may not need it .How many inch lift are your springs? I also picked up a pair of skyjackers 3.5 and have yet to get all together for a ruff.

My springs that I got were to eliminate the blocks in the back the P/O put on with the sky jacker lift kit. I'm going to transfer the AAL over to the new lift springs that will be here this week and it'll be about the same height as it was with the blocks in the back.

LOL at your avatar.

so the springs you are buying from JC are lift springs for that cheap, huh. I may have to take a look cuz my lift came with blocks and wish I had springs.

I'm assuming their lift springs, if not I'm adding another leaf to compensate

Post up a pic of your shackle angle after the new leaf springs are on. Sometimes going to a longer or different arched spring will require a longer shackle. The shackle has to be able to move rearward as the springs flatten out, more arch might need more movement than the stock shackle can handle. Or the other problem is the shackle can become inverted and lock forward in full droop situations.

One thing to consider is if the new leafs have camber shims included.

If the leafs have shims between the leaf and the axle, and then you add shackles for whatever reason, you may need to remove the leaf shims to prevent u-joint wear and vibrations.

Well, this is fun... I get a call from the JCWhitney customer support line this morning "Mr. Gregory I regret to inform you that your skyjacker leaf springs have been discontinued and we as a company only carry one replacement spring for your vehicle not and that is a bellcheck 3' lowering spring for the 1991 toyota pickup 4x4."

WHAT?!?!?!! I flipped out at this guy, i apologized to him several times afterward but he understood, 134.xx shipped for a set of springs it outrageously low. Looks like I'm gonna have to spend 3.5x's that on a set of skyjacker soft-ride 4'' springs. Not looking forward to that nonsense. They will probably tell me that those springs are discontinued too.

I'm gonna order a set of longer shackles with these soft-rides since they are 4in. taller over stock.

What do you have now to give 6" lift with 31" tires??? Pics?

Do you need to be this high? OME leafs are around 300 a pair as an alternative

i'm gonna remove the blocks when the springs i ordered today get here this week and that should put me about where I was with the block and aal I hope. If not I'll be slapping in the aal I have sitting around for the truck and just throw on 33's this fall.

Got my springs in today. Funny though, I paid for UPS ground and they have all of the packing stuff from UPS but were delivered by Fedex. Also, it seems I'm just having the best of times trying to get these springs for my truck. The skyjacker 4in springs came in just fine but summit didn't send me my bushing kit I ordered too. I called them up and they called the warehouse and they had it sitting on their shipping dock from a couple days ago. That resulted in me getting them 2 day shipping for free and they're also sending me a detailing kit too ( wax, wash, shines, wipes, ect. ) A lot of good that does a truck that's 1/4 rhino lined, 1/4 rust, and 1/2 together
