DIY Rear suspension

I've recently gained access to some welding equipment so my mind is running wild with possibilities.

If I were to say, design my own rear suspension, what would be the best way to go (beyond just leaves)?

I'm more interested in a all around design, or something better for going fast, than something that's for hard core rock crawling.

According to this article, angle arms are the best?

Also, are Bilsteins good shocks? They're much cheaper than other brands like Fox or King...

if you really wanna go about doing things try a 4 link set-up seams to work the best
