Differential R&P swap?

Hey!

I've searched the boards alot on this issue, couldn't find anything specific about what I'm looking for.

I've got an 85 pickup with 4.30's and a 92 pickup with 4.10's. I'm taking the front axle out of the 85, the rear out of the 92.

So I would like to take the R&P out of the 85 rear and put it into the 92, so I would have 4.30's front and rear. I have diff. setup kits for both axles. Is that possible. I know there are better solutions, but they involve alot of money, and I'm already forking out big bucks for the rest of the build.

It will be running on 33's, I know not ideal gearing, but I'll be running a dual transfer case as well for the tuff stuff.

I'll be posting pictures of the build once I am further along!

Thanks,

Josh

soo... if your saying what i think you are, you got a 85 with 4.30s and a 92 with 4.10s, and your asking if the 3rd from the rear axle of the 85 will fit in the IFS rear axle from teh 92? if this is what you raskin, yes it will. but your IFS front 3rd is a 7.5in R&P and your 85 has 8in, so know the fronts aint interchangeable

Sorry for the long delay. I couldn't log in at all yesterday. Guess it's fixed now.

I'm actually building a whole new frame. Solid axles front and back.

So, the 85 3rd member will fit in the 92 axle housing, but I'm wondering if the 4.30 ring and pinion from the 85 rear 3rd member will fit in the 92 rear 3rd member? The 92 3rd member is in better shape. The 85 front solid axle will retain it's 4.30 gearing. No IFS.

Sorry bout the confusion, and thanks for the help!

yes the gears will work in either 3rd. 79-85 yotas have 8in diffs front and rear. 86-95 have 8in rear diffs.

Cool. Thanks. I've never dug into any differentials before. I had read that they were all 8 in. but I Didn't know if there were different bolt patterns or anything though.

You have cleared that up. Thanks again!
