Differences in Driveshafts?

This might be a Newb question but...

I'm doing a 5spd swap into my '87 extra cab using a manual trans pulled from an '86 reg cab. Do I need a new drives shaft or can I reuse the one I have attached to the auto trans in my truck right now?

Most pickups have a 2 piece dshaft, but I just used a 1 piece when I did my swap.

Your going to need a new drive shaft, if i remember right the one you have will be a little bit to short.

Yep, I did have it lengthened now that you mention it, but I added duals at the same time too, so actually I might have cut it down. I did something to it but used a 1 piece.

damn. If I can't get the one off the '86 reg cab donor truck, Should I be able to grab one from any 5spd truck (reg or x-ted cab) or 4runner?

I'm about ready to do this swap on my 1993 pickup. Runners are everywhere here but there aren't any pickups to grab parts from. I believe there is only an inch or so difference in length of the transmissions. I think I'll just run it on the street like that while I order a driveshaft spacer from 4crawler. Maybe something you want to look into.

isn't the 1 piece driveshafts supposed to be better than the 2 piece cv style shafts? the reason I am asking, is I believe the P.O. of my truck swapped out to the single piece driveshaft and I have a spare one that is also the single piece.

Thnx Green. I never saw these things on 4crawler and I'm thinking these may be the way to go since I'm told my drive shaft is going to be too short. Very cool looking too...

well talking from my jeep days, the upgrade for jeeps is a slip yoke eliminator kit, meaning the driveshaft doesnt slip from the tcase but inside of itself like the stock yota ones do. this eliminates any chance of spitting a driveshaft due to too much axle droop

I am talking about the single driveshaft vs the two piece driveshaft with the double cardon joint on it. which is what I think of when someone says two piece driveshaft.

I know, those two piece ones, don't seem to be be very popular, but they do exist.
